Baby Blessing

The Forty-Day Blessing is a cherished tradition of the Armenian Church, offering prayers of thanksgiving for the safe delivery of mother and child. During this service, the mother returns to church life, and the newborn is presented before the altar and welcomed into the church family for the first time. The blessing takes place on the fortieth day after birth, or on the nearest Sunday, with both parents present. Inspired by Christ’s presentation in the Temple, the child is dedicated to the Lord in a meaningful and symbolic way.

Presentation of Children Before God

This sacred tradition is rooted in the Presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ at the Temple, when He was brought by the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph forty days after His birth. In the same spirit, families present their child before God, offering thanksgiving for the gift of new life and seeking God’s blessing for the child’s health, protection, and spiritual growth.
