Obituary - The Late Maestro Davit Varjabedian

Davit Varjabedian will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, cherished brother, accomplished baritone, conductor, and teacher whose life was dedicated to music, family, and community.

A respected figure in classical music and a pillar of the Armenian-Canadian community, Davit touched countless lives through his remarkable voice, his leadership as a conductor, and his lifelong dedication to teaching. From his operatic debut as Germont in Verdi's La Traviata with the Armenian National Opera to performances on international stages and with the Canadian Opera Company, his rich baritone and unwavering passion for music left an enduring impression.

For decades, Davit devoted himself to building and leading musical communities. He founded and directed the Ani Choir, the Komitas Choir, and Opera Belcanto of York, where he served as Artistic Director and Conductor. He also faithfully served the Holy Trinity Armenian Church for many years as choir conductor. Through his work, he shared his love of music, nurtured young talent, and inspired generations of singers and musicians.

Beyond music, Davit found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved tending his garden, oil painting, fishing, and, above all, spending time with his family, who were always at the centre of his life.

Davit shared a lifetime of love and partnership with his beloved wife, Melania. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Ani, and his son, Sevag; a beloved brother to Berge and the late Avedis; His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, Kristina, Natalya, Sophia, Erica, and David. He never missed an opportunity to tell them how much they meant to him, and he celebrated each of their accomplishments with immense pride. His love, guidance, wisdom, and values will continue to live on through them.

Davit will be remembered for the music he shared, the community he built, and the love he gave so generously to all who knew him.
