Biography
At the age of 100, Lucy Ashjian peacefully passed away on May 20, 2026. She was born in Toronto on October 1, 1925, to Ohannes (John) and Azniv (Agnes) Poladian and was the youngest of three daughters.
On February 17, 1951, she married her beloved husband, Hagop “Jack” Ashjian, and they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised two children, Larry and Linda.
Throughout her life, Lucy remained incredibly active, enjoying skiing, ice skating, walking, bike riding, swimming, and working out at the gym well into her 70s. Growing up, she spent many summers at her parents’ cottage on Bass Lake. Her active lifestyle contributed greatly to her long and healthy life, and she recently celebrated the remarkable milestone of her 100th birthday.
Lucy enjoyed giving back to her community and was a dedicated blood donor for many years. She was recognized for her contributions by Canadian Blood Services. She also held several jobs throughout her life, including positions at York University, Perly’s Maps (during the pre-GPS era), and Veterans Affairs Canada, where she worked until retiring in 1992 to become a full-time caregiver for Jack following his stroke.
In her later years, she volunteered with “Seniors for Seniors,” driving people to medical appointments and helping with other tasks. Perhaps her greatest joy in life was being a devoted grandmother to Matthew and Marie. She took them to nearly every Toronto landmark imaginable, including the ROM, Ontario Science Centre, Casa Loma, Centre Island, and the CNE every single year. During their many sleepovers at her home, she treated them to countless Disney and other movies and trips to their favourite stores for toys.
In her final years, Lucy was blessed to become a great-grandmother to her beloved Anthony and Aleena.Lucy is survived by her daughter Linda, son-in-law Herman, grandson Matthew (Keegan), granddaughter Marie (Missak), great-grandson Anthony and great-granddaughter Aleena. She is reunited in Heaven with her husband Jack and her son Larry.
May she rest in eternal peace.
