Mario Gumushdjian Library

The Mario Gumushdjian Library was established in loving memory of the late Mario Gumushdjian, in 2006. His fondness of books and love of reading extended across many subjects, including architecture, art, history and science; however, it was reading the Bible that changed his life. The written Word of God gives life, and through the Holy Spirit, Mario lives again –

It is with this miracle that the Library is founded and testifies to the next generation. Our Mission is to inspire the love of God in children, to provide Orthodox reference books for parents and teachers, to spread the Word of God and knowledge of the Lord in the individual and the community.

The Library provides Orthodox Christian Armenian resources to support and enrich the curriculum as imparted at the community schools, and, to inspire the Christian spirit of service and leadership throughout the world. With over 600 books, CD’s, and DVD’s that focus on instilling the love of God and the Holy Bible, the library supports new generations of the Church community in their journey of faith in God.

Each month during the academic year, students from the Sunday School come to the library for Library Day, where the children and volunteers are given an interactive lesson about parables written in the Bible through select, kid-friendly texts from the library. Everyone, but children especially, are encouraged to take out and return books as Patrons of the Library on Sundays from 12p.m – 1p.m.

In Nor Serount, community members can find articles that feature texts from the library and provide an explanation of the deeper meaning within the stories that can inspire young and old about the Lord’s presence in our lives.

PSALM 23: 1-3

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in the path of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Amen
