2010 WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

The 2010 World Day of Prayer service took place at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church on
Friday, March 5.  The participating churches from the area were Holy Trinity Armenian
Church, St. John the Divine Anglican, St. Ninian’s Anglican and Salvation Army- Cedarbrae.

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who
come together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday of March.
This annual event takes place in 170 countries and regions in the world; across Canada,
2000 communities observe it.

This event is facilitated by the World Day of Prayer International Committee, which meets
once every four years to select the themes and countries for upcoming services.  This year
the theme was “Let everything that has breath praise God” and the service was prepared
by the women of Cameroon.

The funds collected from the offerings received during WDP services across Canada are
used to provide grants for various worthwhile projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Nora Baltayan was the representative from our church who attended the organizational
meeting at St. Stephen’s Church.  She had approached different groups within our church
and we took part in the service with the participation of 10 individuals.  The participants
were, Sossy Baronian from Sunday School; Talin Orfali, Lena Garabedian and Eliz Kaltakjian
from ACYOC; Aret Boyajian and Rose Gerekmercian from Bible Study group; Ivette Panossian,
Nora Baltayan and Virginia Misakyan from Women’s Guild; and Lucine Abikian, our youngest
member and an ardent volunteer in many church activities.

Our large group really made an impression on the attendees and we were praised for our
contribution to the evening.  Following the service, refreshments and sweets were enjoyed by everyone.

Special thanks go to all participants who took part in this important event.  Their involvement
and efforts are much appreciated and they have been excellent representatives of the Holy
Trinity Armenian Church.
