MAJOR FEAST DAYS (DAGHAVARS)
The five major Feast days of the Armenian Church are called Daghavar Feasts. They are Christmas and Theophany, Easter, Transfiguration, Assumption and Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The Armenian Church commemorates these days with extreme solemnity. They are celebrated exclusively on Sundays. The Monday following each of the feasts is Memorial Day dedicated to the deceased. Requiem mass is held on those days in the church. Then, at the request of families, the priest proceeds to the cemeteries for prayers at gravesites.
