The "Sewing Circle" of Holy Trinity Armenian Church came into existence in 1987 while the current structure of the Church was under way. It operates under the auspices of the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese. The ladies of the "Sewing Circle" sew full outfits for the clergy and prepare embroidery for the Chalice and other holy utensils. The work is not limited to the Holy Trinity Armenian Church but extends to the renovated or reopened churches in Armenia. In order to cover their expenses, the ladies take orders for outfits for clergy or embroidery from Armenian Apostolic churches in Canada and the United States. The ladies of the "Sewing Circle" gather in the hall of Holy Trinity Armenian Church every Wednesday to work together. There are other ladies who do the work from their home. Another important purpose that the ladies of the "Sewing Circle" have is to preserve the Armenian tradition of embroidery by encouraging young Armenian ladies to join the group and learn this tradition while at the same time having input in the life of the Church. |
