Youth Choir

 

Christmas is coming up faster than you think and this is the perfect time to sing once again magical Armenian songs!

  

The HTAC Youth Choir is inviting Boys & Girls between the ages of 8 to 16 for another season of music with concerts and fun under the Direction of Pianist/Choir Director- Meline Afyan.

Rehearsals are held every Sunday between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.,

at the Magaros Artinian Hall of the HTAC and

every child & youth is encouraged to join this wonderful group.

Joining a choir enriches artistically the lives of the youngsters, their families and the community. Children learn, explore & express their artistic talents through music while they develop confidence, commitment and self-discipline. They experience the beauty of Armenian folk and religious music.

Mrs. Meline Afyan is a professional pianist, vocal coach and choirmaster, currently residing in Toronto with her young family.

 

After completing her preliminary piano studies at the Saragev Special School of Music, Meline attended the Romanos Melikian College of Music, received her Teacher’s Diploma in Advanced Music Studies, specializing in Choir Conducting and piano.

 

From 2001 to 2005, she attended the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, receiving her Master Degree in Piano performance, Piano Pedagogy and Choir Conducting with Honours.

On Saturday December 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. the Yeraz Youth Choir of Holy Trinity Armenian Church attended the Toronto Children's Chorus’ annual performance of "A Chorus Christmas" at the Roy Thomson Hall.

It was a wonderful and educational opportunity for the YYC boys & girls to hear the beautiful voices of more than 400 choristers. Founded in 1978, the Toronto Children's Chorus (TCC) is recognized as one of the world's leading choral ensembles.

  The choir has preformed in Europe, Australia, South Africa, Russia and the United States.  It was a joyous and a memorable afternoon for our children to hear the younger singers and very inspirational to listen to the older Alumni Choir.  The audience sing-along of Christmas Carols and the lovely accompaniments of the Harp, Viola, Flute, Cello, Percussion and the True North Brass were fun for all involved.

Established just recently, the Yeraz Youth Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Meline Afyan, has14 members but our dream is to become a large, musical and, why not, traveling choir as the ones we witnessed on this wonderful trip.
