Saturday April 24 – “Commemoration
of The 95th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide”
at
St. Sahag &
St. Mesrob Armenian Saturday School
On
Saturday April 24 at 9:45 a.m. more than 200 students from St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Armenian Saturday school, together with their
teachers walked from the rear doors of the A.G.B.U., through the parking lot
holding red carnations and placards (prepared by the Grade 4 students) and
ended up gathering at the Memorial Statue in front of the Church.
The walk reminded us of the march to
“Ztizernagapert” in our homeland. Under
clear blue skies, Rev. Archpriest Zareh Zargarian together with the principal
Mrs. Sonia Kradjian were at the front of the long line of students who were
exceptionally cooperative realizing that the Genocide is the heart of all
Armenians, both in our homeland and the Diaspora.
| During
the emotional gathering, Father Zareh
Zargarian gave a heart-warming speech and asked the students to repeat
after
him a pledge that as the future generation of the Armenian nation they
will
continue to be loyal to their Armenian Christian faith and proud of
their
identity. | |
After placing the carnations
at the foot of the Memorial Statue the students headed to the Holy Trinity
Armenian Church’s Magaros Artinian hall to attend another commemoration event
prepared by the Grade 6 students.
The
day culminated by a lecture/presentation about the Armenian Genocide for the
Grade 4 to Grade 8 and Ani class students.
Present were members of the Board of Trustees, the Parish Council
liaison and parents. This is a day that will be incredibly memorable for our
students, teachers, parents and the whole school community.
