Armenian Christmas celebrated in Holy Trinity Armenian Church Minimize

The solemn observance of the Armenian Christmas Eve (or “jrakalouytz”), on the evening of January 5, 2007, was celebrated by His Grace, Bishop Bagrat Galstanian, Primate of the Canadian Armenian Diocese.  Attending the liturgy were Reverend Arch. Father Zareh Zargarian and Rev. Father Sarkis Gulian.

Faithful of the parish gathered in the sanctuary of Holy Trinity Armenian Church to worship together and celebrate Nativity and Theophany of Jesus Christ.  Immediately following the liturgy, clergy and faithful came by procession into the church lobby, where the Parish Council served cognacs and liqueurs, chocolates and sweet breads to help traditionally toast this joyous event.  Bishop Bagrat took delight in showering the faithful during the blessing of the water, salt and bread, and the evening ended on a joyful note.

On the morning of Saturday, January 6, 2007 Holy Trinity was filled with prayers and celebration.  Rev. Archpriest Zareh Zargarian, parish priest, celebrated the Divine Liturgy.  Immediately following the liturgy was the traditional blessing of water, and distribution to all present faithful.

The Armenian tradition of observing January 6th rather than the more common December 25th, or the Eastern Orthodox January 7th, is what helps to set us apart as a distinct, ancient and traditional Christian nation.  All Armenians, the world over, were united on this happy day.

HOLY TRINITY HOSTS INTER-CHURCH SERVICES FOR THE
ASSASSINATED
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church of Toronto was the host of an inter-Church memorial service for the late Hrant Dink, who was shot and killed in Istanbul on Friday.  Mr. Dink was the Chief Editor of AGOS Armenian-Turkish weekly newspaper in Istanbul.

The church was packed with the Armenian community of Toronto who gathered to pray for the departed soul of Hrant Dink.  Mr. Dink will be remembered for the impact that he had on all Armenians and Armenian relations, not only living in Turkey, but around the world.  His vision, fortified by the ideals of free speech and freedom of the press, was one or reconciliation between Armenian and Turkish peoples through intellectual dialogue

009.jpg

He addressed the possibility of reconciliation in Yerevan in April 2005, and at the 3rd Armenia-Diaspora Conference in Yerevan in September 2006.  He was passionately devoted to promoting truth, freedom of speech, and democracy, and will be sorely missed by the international Armenian community.

The memorial was jointly organized by Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church, St. Gregory Armenian Catholic Church and the Armenian Evangelical Church of Toronto.

Sunday December 3, 2006 was another special day for us at Holy Trinity, marking the 78th Anniversary of our parish.

The faithful were treated to a special Divine Liturgy, officiated by His Grace Bishop Bagrat Galstanian, during which Father Zareh introduced and blessed the special “Tree of Remembrance” located on the sanctuary wall, instituted by this year’s Parish Council.  The sponsorship of a leaf in the new tree with the names of deceased loved ones will be a lasting testimony of love and respect, while making the Christian principle of good stewardship within easy reach.
Also during Divine Liturgy, the memorial service included special prayers for late Pastors, Parish Council Members, Godfathers and Benefactors.
